Checking for duplicate dates within a table

Summary

When you change a field value or save the record, treat two date fields in a table as a start date and end date range, and check whether the ranges overlap between rows. If they overlap, show an error.

How to use

Select the start and end date fields inside the table. Decide whether periods that meet on the same date count as overlapping, and set the error message.

When it runs

Depending on the settings, this customization runs at the following times. Any configured conditions are also evaluated.

  • Immediately before saving a record
  • When you edit and change a target field value

The page-display and field-change triggers exclude inline editing from the pencil icon on the list page.

Parameters

Enter or select a value for each setting unless it is marked optional.

Start Date Field

Choose the start date field for the periods to check for overlaps.

The following field types can be selected.

  • Date

Select a field inside a table.

End Date Field

Choose the end date field for the periods to check for overlaps.

The following field types can be selected.

  • Date

Select a field inside a table.

If the start date is the same as the end date

Choose whether a period ending on the same date another begins counts as an overlap.

Available options:

  • Consider overlapping
  • Not consider overlapping

Initial value: Not consider overlapping

Error Message

Enter the message to show when the input fails the check. Explain how the user can correct it.

Initial value: Date ranges are overlapping.
