Assign Shortcut Key to Custom Buttons

Summary

Assign a keyboard shortcut key to trigger button clicks.

How to use

When a user presses a key on the keyboard, it will be considered as clicking the button placed by “Place Custom Buttons in Space Field”. This will trigger the action of “When Button Clicked” with the key on the keyboard.

If the button is disabled using “Disable Custom Buttons”, pressing a key will not work.

You cannot assign the same key as the Kintone shortcut key. Please refer to the Kintone help for the Kintone shortcut keys.

The corresponding button must be created beforehand. If you try to “Assign Shortcut Key to Custom Buttons” without first creating the button, an error will occur.

Parameters

Set Button, Modifier Key, and Letter Key.

Button

Select the button for allocation.

You can select an action from the followings:

When assigning a shortcut key to the button of “Place Custom Button to Right of Field,” please add the condition “If the current screen is the PC version.” When executed on the mobile version, an error occurs because the assigned button does not exist.

Modifier Key

Select whether to determine by pressing the Ctrl key and the Alt key simultaneously.

For example, if the “Modifier Key” is Ctrl and the “Letter Key” is x, pressing both the Ctrl key and the x key simultaneously will be considered a button press.

When we refer to “Modifier Key,” we are not just talking about Ctrl and Alt, but also the Shift key, the Windows key, and the Mac’s Command key. However, the only keys that can be assigned as shortcuts using the “Assign Shortcut Key to Custom Buttons” buttons are Ctrl and Alt.

It’s also important to note that the action does not support configurations that require pressing both Ctrl and Alt at the same time, such as “Ctrl + Alt + X.”

Letter Key

Enter the characters to create a shortcut. Specify with the characters printed on the keys of the keyboard.

If it is a single character, you can specify any character, but it is recommended to use an alphabet.

Restrictions

  • If the specified key is a shortcut for browser functions, in some browsers, the browser’s own functions may take precedence, and the customized shortcut keys may not work. For example, in Chrome, “Ctrl+t” is assigned to the function of opening a new tab, and that takes precedence. Which key takes priority in the browser depends on the browser.

  • You cannot assign the same key as the Kintone shortcut key.

  • You cannot create two shortcuts with the same key. It is possible to assign shortcut keys to one button with different keys.

  • You cannot invoke any action with a keyboard key without going through a button.
